Worst experience

I will never use legal zoom again. I created an LLC through legal zoom and need a DBA they misfiled my paperwork twice and gave me the run around on the phone.

Then told me I had to call the Secretary of State to have it resolved.

I paid legal zoom 99 dollars for the DBA and the error cost 60 dollars to fix. I WILL NEVER GIVE ANOTHER DOLLAR TO THEM!!!

Victim of small print

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

when they sale package they were so nice and always try to upgrade service. I fall for the same trap.

They convinced me to upgrade but never explained there will be $49 charge for legal advice fee every month and i need to cancel. i was not told and after two months when i figure it out, then called them and they promise one of their supervisors going to call me to resolve the charges, no one called. 3 days after i called and they refused to refund two-month charges and telling to see the receipt where they have mentioned about the charge. this is how taking the advantage of small prints.

that charge to me is unauthorized and illegal. But these guys are very tricky, and they just take advantage of people who is not aware of those terms when start a business. And always try to prove whatever they charge is right and they explain to you, which they don't. i am not recommending anyone to them.

if you deal with them, be careful and go through each line of the documents which they sent. This is really unexpected, its completely a fraud way to do business.

Terrible experience and getting overcharged.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I used legal zoom to set up an LLC to register a car in Montana, this was the wrong choice in my opinion. The set up was not the problem, it was customer service and company policies which are not okay.

In the process of registering my car, the 3rd party that was in charge of registering the vehicle needed to send some documents to my registered agent, which i was told that all documents that are received by the registered agent will get sent out to the mailing address on file. That never happened and all of my paperwork from the state and from the bank that was sent out was lost, so i had to restart the whole process. My car registration took 3 months due to this. Insane.

Before i started the process again, i changed my registered agent as the one that i was assigned was not responsive whatsoever.

My agent was changed in the first two months of the LLC creation. It was a joke, i attempted everyway possible to get in touch with the agent other than driving across the country to visit in person. i changed my registered agent and did the correct paperwork with the state and they continued to charge me for 3 more years. This is a $240 yearly fee.

I wake up this morning and notice i have roughly $600 (Registered agent $240 and compliance fees $280) in charges from legal zoom, so i immediately review all the emails from leagel zoom, i quickly realized that ALL EMAILS WERE GOING TO MY SPAM, and i never saw a single one of them.

They even told me over the phone that we noticed that you opened the email this morning. The email i opened was sent 2 months prior. I followed up and asked if any other emails were open and she said not that i can see. I get that i signed off 3+ years ago for some of these services, but if someone calls in and politely explains the situation and why it is not correct, and the customer service rep even acknowledges the facts that i havent opened a single email besides 1, and they still wouldnt refund my money due to company policy.

Its a complete joke and i would not recommend using them to my worst enemy. I am totaling about $730 that should have never been charged, plain and simple.

If i was anyone wanting to form an LLC or corporation, do not use legal zoom services.

This was a nightmare, and i'm not exaggerating one bit here. Use another 3rd party and pay more for a better experience

I terminated my association with LegalZoom.Overpriced, limited attorneys, attorney staff have been rude and condescending.Rather pay more for a great attorney.

Original review Jul 12, 2024
First: Last price increase was much more than one might expect. I inquired via email for a written response--no one bothered to respond.
Second: I'm disappointed in the lack of attorneys in Southern California.
Third: Just before I terminated my plan, I was contacted by either a LZ employee or staffer at the attorney's office I was waiting to speak to.
The attorney incorrectly read my description of my issue.

I clarified my need and the employee spoke to me in a condescending tone parroting the same message from the attorney. She refused to convey my clarification.
I've located a more expensive plan with a broader selection of attorneys to choose from.

I'm also disappointed LZ no longer offer Tax questions with my plan.
Overall, the offerings and dearth of attorneys led me to terminate my plan.
Companies which do not respond to customer's needs eventually burn out. LZ, I believe, is on that trajectory!

Constant miscommunication

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Ive had to call 4 times to correct an error they made. Im told it was only a week ago when in reality this has gone on for over a month.

I call and they say everything is all set. Then its not. Then i use chat, told everything is all set. Once again its not.

I talk to chat again and they try to say i only had this issue for 8 days. It has been a month and that doesnt explain why its not fixed. The chat says i have to call again. I ask for a refund, but of course its been too long (over 3 weeks but they said in chat 8 days?) 8 days isnt too long so which is it?

I then have to read my private info for the third time, then have to say it again just for fun at this point?

Im then told ill have the info (tax ein) in 1-2 hours. Even if this comes thru im done with legal zoom.

I regret my decision to use Legal Zoom

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user May 24, 2024

My situation has continued to deteriorate. Despite spending a lengthy phone call correcting information, the second filing for my nonprofit was filed with the erroneous information.

Legal zoom cannot seem to be bothered beyond "no worries".

Unfortunately, this has cause me nothing but worry. So, in addition to correcting state filing information, I now need to take the time to correct federal filings.

Original review May 22, 2024
I could not be more dissatisfied with my experience with my LZ for setting up Nonprofit with 501(c)(3). Unfortunately I'm too far down the path to change course now.
1.

Technology - subpar at best. I wish I had realized the money back guarantee, I would have requested a refund immediately upon seeing the technology. process. You must answer all questions at once and in order, there is no menu to review a prior section.

If you don't complete questions in one sitting for any reason, you will be forced to start over and re-enter information. There's no opportunity to final review your answers before hitting submit and no opportunity to review your forms before they are sent to the state. Answers you provide appear to be transcribed to a form by a human on the backend which leaves too much room for error. My forms were submitted to the state with erroneous information.
2.

Customer service is rude and undereducated regarding processes. I was told I'd have an opportunity to review my information with a person before it was submitted - this did not happen. Upon alerting LZ that my forms were filed with the state incorrectly and I was told that the best way to fix it was for ME to prepare and file corrective docs even though the error was not mine. Emails I received from customer service were poorly crafted and contain factual and typographical errors (the may sound petty, but details matter on legal docs).

Example, I was told my nonprofit was required to have a Chief Fiance Officer (not Finance).
LZ seems much more focused on selling add-on products than providing an accurate and efficient service.
My one positive was the actual consult I had with an attorney, which just furthered my regret of my decision. I'd much rather have paid someone to advocate for me instead throwing away money on LZ.

INCOMPETENT

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Legal zoom got things wrong at every turn.

I had to do everything myself. Or rather redo and fix everything they got wrong or didn't do.

I had to call them multiple to fix just one thing because they are incapable of following instructions.

The business folder they mail you was incomplete 2 times. The first one was incomplete and damaged. The second one had even less in it. They are still refusing to make any of it right.

I paid $500 for this??? I did everything myself... what exactly did I pay for???

I want my money back... Legal zoom is completely incompetent and as far as I am concerned they are just steeling from their clients.

The website says, "Virtual mail service is provided and billed monthly with auto-renewal through Earth Class Mail, a LegalZoom company. Add-on services, such as check deposits and storage, are charged per item.

For more info, see our detailed pricing page and Terms of Service.

You can cancel online at any time." But you cannot cancel on line, it is a lie. There is no way to cancel. They tell you to call, but the phone cuts you off and hangs up on you. I tried 6 times.

There is no where online to cancel. I tried the chat but they told me to call.

Original review updated Jun 23, 2024

I was charged a $299 subscription fee with no reminder about the renewal charge prior. Additionally, unable cancel online via their website without proof of another/new agent- which is not mandatory to let them know, so they make it extremely difficult to even cancel.

How can I even show a new registered agent if my company is dissolved?

My business has been dissolved, however, they are unwilling to extend a refund when I reached out to them, they are unwilling to even extend a pro-rated refund. Unethical.

Over a month ago I paid the fee to create an LLC and they still haven't completed the order. I have spent HOURS on the phone and chats and email with their awful customer service team and they will not complete the order or refund my money.

The reason they are giving that they can't complete my order is because my registered agent's address is wrong so they can't submit my order to the Secretary of State, yet the registered agent's address was pulled directly from the Secretary of State's public records.

I had to file a fraud charge with my bank. Do

Problem the worst company to get a refund or transparency about theyre subscriptions. Once they get your money they could care less about your business.

ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY.

Just find a local CPN and get them to do it for half the cost. Don't waste your time with these low lifes.

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with product or service ordered. They gave an insincere apology and a lame excuse on the 8 months it took to confirm my dba had been filed and properly advertised.

Updated by user Jun 04, 2023

All that remained for my "premium dba filing" purchase from Legalzoom.com was proof of publication for four consecutive weeks in Riverside County, California. My last official update in April 2023, regarding the "proof" from Legalzoom.com, was that it would be end of May before I could expect a copy of the recorded document.

This whole process had been going on much longer than when I had my fictitious business name filing done in Los Angeles County. The only thing I knew to do so that i could proceed with re-opening my business was to physically go to the County Recorder's Office and find out the status of the recorded proof of publication document included in my $240 up-front fee to Legalzoom.com on November 1, 2022. I arranged an appointment with the County Recorder's Office in Palm Desert on May 15 2023. To my surprise upon arrival, my filing was published during the month of March 2023!

I was able to obtain the recorded "Proof of Publication" at my May 15th appointment for a fee of $2.00.I should NOT have had to take my time to get this document and it leaves the question in my mind as to WHY this company could not provide it to me on a timely basis. I have notified them and their executive escalations team via email of my dissatisfaction of their services and asked for a full refund and reminded them they owe me $2.00 for the certified copy of the document in question. I got a semi-canned reply that I was not due a refund because my order had been completed. This infuriated me and I replied that the ONLY reason the order was completed was due to my efforts.

The end of May has come and gone and so did this legal services company. I have spent too much time fighting with them. I now have to get a home business application filed with the City of Cathedral City that requires my completed dba registration in addition to other "red tape".

Since there has been no response that included answers to all the questions I have posed to them, I am moving on from the stance of the old saying about whipping a dead horse. I told them in my last email that they could rest assured that I would do everything I can do to prevent them from getting referral business and that I trust the Universe will see to the demise of their inefficient and incompetent way of doing business.

Original review May 02, 2023
When I chose legalzoom.com to handle filing my fictitious business name (dba) with Riverside County, California on November 1, 2022, I expected the filing to have taken place by the time my Los Angeles County dba filing expired on 12/27/22. My paperwork that was to be filed was not sent to Riverside County until 12/28/22.

There was a delay on this due to the holidays and the fact that I wasnt notified in the form of emails of questions their Back office had along the way. The only email I got was when the documents were ready for me to print out, sign in triplicate and send back to legalzoom.com so they could send those to the county for recording. From the 1st of November thru the end of 2022, I called them for status updates on 4 different occasions, November 14, 25, 27 and December 10. I called to check status and was told it was going to be a 5 to 6 week delay to get my documents recorded in Riverside County.

This was no fault of Legal Zoom,so I was told, and took their word. On or about January 27, 2023, I began getting solicitations in the mail from various local companies wanting me to use one of them to do what I paid up front for legalzoom.com to do. All new filings for fictitious business names must be advertised in a local publication for 4 weeks in a row following recording. And again the $240 I paid legalzoom.com included the four weeks of paid advertising.
I called on February 3rd because I had received a call earlier that morning from somebody representing to be someone that is in the back office of legalzoom.com.

He sent a text message to me so that I could go to a link that he provided which turned out to be a form which supposedly was to go to the Secretary of State's office in California to prove that my company was in good standing with the State. He had me open the file which took me to a form which had legal zooms logo on it. He explained that we had to fill this form out correctly the first time because it was a problem if you filled it out in error and then try to get it changed. It had my name address phone number email address and finally my federal tax ID.

I worked with him to get those pieces of information entered on the form. At that point I still did not understand why I was having to fill this form out and why I was going to have to pay more money. The cost for this was going to be an extra $145. I hit the ceiling at that point and stayed there ranting and raving about why I had to fill this out and why wasn't I told and etc.

etc. At that point I asked to speak with somebody in customer service at LegalZoom And he supposedly transferred me but it turned out to be possibly the same person or somebody with the same accent. I went round and round with him until I finally hung up. They never got my credit card nnumber.

I then called the toll free number to legalzoom.com they didn't have any record of anybody from their back office trying to call me. I also did some research on the form that I was asked to fill out by the impersonator and that form is only used for corporations or LLCs to prove that they don't owe anything to the state in the form of taxes Etc. A sole proprietorship like I am filing is not required to fill out anything like this unless I was selling my company. During my call to the real Legalzoom, the representative kept saying that the time frame from when I started this process to the current date had been way too long and it shouldn't be that way.

So she told me that she was going to take ownership of my case and communicate with me from this point until completion. She also told me to expect a call from somebody that had more Authority. I impressed on her that the impersonator had my personal info as well as my federal tax id.at legalzoom regarding the impersonator as well as the process taking so long. I never heard from her or anyone in management regarding anything on my case.
The next day, I got a call from someone who sounded like the same person with the same accent purporting to be with the California Secretary of State's office.

I said right then at that point, before I hang up on you I want to hear what you have to say. He proceeded to rattle on about this that and the other until I hung up on him. I did report this incident to the Secretary of State's office and the fact that this impersonator had my federal tax ID now.
I did finally receive a copy of the dba recording about a month after the recording date of January 26 but there was no mention of the 4 weeks of publication in a local news source.
I called several more times to check on the affidavit regarding the publishing that must be started in 45 days of the recording. I got conflicting info each time I called until finally I spoke to a representative who told me she was going to contact their publishing department to get the status.

This was early April. I heard nothing in a weeks time and called back. I was told that the affidavit would not be available until end of May. That made me so distraught and I did nothing for over a week.
I called Legalzoom again to ask a simple question Why was it going to be another month for this to all be done?

She kept looking further into the notes in my file and found that publication info was filed on March 14 and recorded on April 6. The time this info was shared with me was April 24. She could not pull up the document but gave me a recording number. That number turned out to be the filing number from January 26.

The publication affidavit recording should have a different recording number because it is now 3 months later.
I am now giving up onn legalzoom and have made an appointment to go to the recorders office and see what they can tell me. It is ashamed that I have to do this leg work. I should have just done this myself in a much shorter time frame. Legalzoom has cost me thousands of dollars in sales because the service I paid for is not done and their system shows my purchase to be complete.

Am I going to be forced to get a lawyer to rattle legalzooms cage? Six months and counting is highly abnormal for an individual filing as a sole proprietor!!
